Birg Castle Ruins

pictures

description

brief description:

Situated on a hilltop, the ramparts, on which a castle was erected at some point in time, are supposedly of Celtic origin. For many, many years, the people of the municipality of Schmelz have been telling stories about Birg Castle and the lord of the castle, Peter of Birg, a robber baron who was up to mischief. To this day, you can see the exit of his secret escape tunnel, mentioned in the legend, the so-called „Kessler’s hole“ across from the “Schattermühle” house.
