brief description: 

the Schwarzenbergturm measures 46 metres in height and dates back to 1930. Thanks to reinforced concrete formwork construction, a technique new at the time, it was built in just under 6 weeks on Saarbrücken highest hill, the Schwarzenberg (376,2 m). The tower came through World War II virtually unscathed, and the few minor damages it had incurred were remedied by 1949. At the beginning of the 1950s, an ultra-shortwave transmitter was installed on the Schwarzenbergturm. Initially employed for broadcasting, it was later used by the police, the fire brigade, the German Red Cross, the German Federal Border Guard and, today, by wireless carriers. Inside the tower is a noteworthy staircase, whose 241 steps lead to the observation deck on the topmost platform, which offers a gigantic view of the surroundings
