Spread over an area of 20 hectares on the site of a former industrial port, Saarbrücken's Bürgerpark has a very contemporary feel to it. It is the post-modern conception of a landscape architect who cleverly combined old and new, integrating relics from the coal and iron industries into the park's walks and monuments. A network of trails and promenades, leading past (or through) differently shaped architectural water installations, makes it easy to explore the park. Besides its skateboard ground, its boules area, and numerous green patches, visitors will also find a circus which, serving as an open air stage, hosts a variety of music events during the summer months. Surrounding the park are contemporary buildings from the 1990s, such as Saarbrücken's employment agency, the Federal State Central Bank, etc.
