Maybach Miner's Settlement

The Maybach miner's settlement was established from 1901 to, respectively, 1905 and 1910. It is possible to tell for whom the houses were built by looking at the different building styles: the workmen's houses were designed in a very simple and modest fashion. Although their living space was already limited, the workmen's small cellars also had to serve, in part, as barnstables. Higher-ranking employees and clerks were accorded bigger building lots with one or more extra farm buildings. Their houses had more presentable facades with more decorative elements, and, of course, more living space. Their residential quarter was also home to all social buildings, such as the church or the school. The Maybach school building (built in 1905) is located exactly between the workers' quarter and the clerks' quarter (Quierschieder Straße 21). Today, the entire miner's settlement is under preservation order
