brief description: 

the Château de Malbrouck was built at the beginning of the 15th century. Its architecture has barely changed over the centuries - only in the 1990s has the castle been entirely renovated by the Moselle Regional Council, its present proprietor. Malbrouck Castle owes its name to the English military genius John Churchill, Duke of Marlborough, whom the French nicknamed Malbrouck. In June of 1705, during the War of the Spanish Succession, he set up headquarters in the then called Château de Manderen to prepare his invasion of France. Malbrouck's plans failed, but the castle has since kept the name of its notorious occupant, who was also immortalised in the popular French children's song Malbrouck s'en va-t-en guerre (Malbrouck Goes Off to War) - a widespread tune which served as the forerunner to, amongst others, For He's a Jolly Good Fellow. The castle has 4 corner towers (3 rectangular, 1 round), which are all accessible to the public. The Château de Malbrouck offers a rich variety of exhibitions, demonstrations, and information on all aspects of life in ancient times (such as, e.g., craftsmanship)

coming from Saarbrücken, take the A620 motorway going in the direction of Luxembourg. Take the Perl exit going in the direction of Thionville.
