brief description: 

this historic chapel is among the most ancient pilgrimage chapels in the Lorraine region. While the exact date of construction is unknown, the first written mention of Notre Dame de Faux-en-Forêt dates back to 1126. At the time, the abbot Bertrand of St. Arnulf was given permission to found a priory next to the chapel to accommodate monks. The successors of the neighbouring agricultural farm, on whose land the chapel stands, still live on the premises (Typical Lorraine Farmhouse in Faux-en-Forêt, also featured in the Location Guide). Above the entrance of the chapel is a tympanum with antique sculptures. For centuries, Notre Dame de Faux-en-Forêt was a much frequented place of pilgrimage. Following the French Revolution, the building was taken into private property

coming on the A31 motorway going in the direction of Metz-Nancy, take exit no. 28. Continue on the D910 secondary road going in the direction of St. Avold. Once you have reached Han sur Nied, turn left onto the D199 going in the direction of Vittoncourt. Halfway to Vittoncourt, turn right and follow the dirt track to the chapel

there is no direct rail service to Faux-en-Forêt. The closest train stations are Forbach and Metz
