Grimburg Castle

description

brief description:

Grimburg Castle was built around 1190 for the Archbishops of Trier and served as principal administrative centre for nearly 40 communities in the Hochwald region. In 1522, Franz von Sickingen captured the castle and, in the following years, a number of witch trials were conducted on site. It was only in 1978 that restoration works were taken up and the castle ruins were beginning to be rebuilt in parts. The efforts of the Burg Grimburg Development Association have made it possible that, today, visitors can once again walk among the walls of this medieval castle complex
