District Administrator´s Office in Ottweiler

description

brief description:

since 1889, the district of Ottweiler owns the residential palace which, today, houses the district administrator´s office of the district of Neunkirchen. The Witwen-Palais is the only residential palace built as well as planned by Friedrich Joachim Stengel (1694-1787), master architect in the service of Prince William Henry of Nassau-Saarbrücken. It plays a particularly important part in Stengel´s overall %u0153uvre, illustrating very distinctly the architectural outline and structure typical of Stengel´s work. The building, which was erected between 1758 and 1760, owes its name - Witwen-Palais literally means Widow´s Palace - to Karl Lohmeyer. In his Stengel monograph, the author purports that Prince William Henry (1718-1768) commissioned the residential palace for his wife Sophie Erdmuthe, née Countess von Erbach
