brief description: 

the Roman Villa in Perl-Borg has been reconstructed on the basis of ancient remains that were discovered about one hundred years ago by a teacher named Johann Schneider. The impressive estate-like grounds are composed of a grand domain including three building wings and an adjoining court complex including agricultural buildings laid out over an area exceeding 7,5 ha. The Villa´s Roman baths and the tavern were completed in 1997. The manor house with its contemporary furnishings and the exquisitely shaped interior courtyard were opened to the public in 1999. The third wing (used as a residential and agricultural building during antiquity) was finished in 2001. The entire site illustrates the different aspects of Roman country life - it is the largest complex of its kind anywhere in Europe. To round off the overall picture, beautiful gardens have been landscaped between the buildings, which were constructed as close as possible to the architectural originals of antiquity

interior architecture: 
Furniture, doors, windows, the warm-water boiler in the boiler room, as well as a number of technical details has been accurately reconstructed for the Roman Villa based on antique models. For the most part of the design and painting of the manor house and the Villa´s baths, original findings from Borg were used as patterns. With archaeological troves from the entire surrounding district on display, the rooms of the manor house are being used as a regional museum. The Villa´s thermal bath gives an impression of antique bathing tradition, which was highly regarded and cultivated even in the rural regions of the Roman province

Filming experience: 
the Roman Villa has been the site of numerous international film productions (e.g. ZDF, SR, Arte, RAI Uno). To avoid anachronisms, minor structural alterations can be made upon prior agreement. In addition, if extras are needed, the Villa´s marketing director (Gerd Schmitt) can contact Roman groups to appear clad in original garb and/or with horses

car: 
coming from Saarbrücken, take the A620 motorway in the direction of Luxembourg, then the A8 motorway, again going in the direction of Luxembourg. Take the Perl-Borg exit. From there on, the rest of the way is clearly marked
