brief description:
at the end of World War I, villagers raised a statue of the Virgin Mary on a hill in Varsberg. Engraved on the pedestal of the statue are the names of the families whose men returned home from the war along with the names of those who were mourning the loss of loved ones killed in action. A staircase with 172 steps leads up to the hilltop, from which the Virgin Mary, patron saint of the community of Varsberg, oversees the entire village

coming on the A4 motorway (Paris - Saarbrücken), take the St. Avold exit and continue on the N33 trunk road going in the direction of Carling, Creutzwald, Überherrn. Follow the D26 secondary road going in the direction of Diesen, Ham sur Varsberg. Once you have reached the village Ham sur Varsberg, follow the D73 to Varsberg. You can see the statue (which is accessible by a staircase behind Town Hall) from the square next to Town Hall.
